Establishing a local performance venue and fostering support for young musicians is no easy task - one that our friends Leonie and Nick have very successfully managed to do in just a year with the St. George Church Trevancore Music Series. Having worked closely with the church to acquire a new Yamaha grand piano, they founded a fundraising concert series over the year, through which the proceeds went towards a target of $12 000 to pay off the piano!
So a week out from arriving back to Melbourne from our whirlwind US trip (which we will be sharing more about), we were glad to be performing for the final concert in their fundraising series on 8 May - a Mother's Day special! After a week of late night rehearsals, it was refreshing to be performing a new program that included Haydn and Hindson piano trios to a very receiving audience.
What really stood out for us was the very real sense of community and appreciation - and the beautiful afternoon tea where we had the chance to meet and chat with some new faces. Thank you Leonie, Nick, Duncan and Penny for having us. We look forward to being back soon!
